The main goal of this post is to check in, say HEY, and sort of word vomit what comes to my mind. Before writing this I did an Instagram poll with four lifestyle topic options. Funnily enough this was the subject you guys chose!
It’s been awhile since I sat down to write something for autumnsorelle.com – which makes me sad! To those of you who have been following along for the past few years or even recently… THANK YOU. I wish I could look each of you in the eyes individually and tell you how much it means to me!
I started this website in 2017 as a place to chat about style, mindfulness, travel, health/wellness… anything really. But when I get busy with work, this takes the back burner. And when that happens I get bummed and down on myself. And when THAT happens, it’s like I really push it away and give up because I feel like I’m failing. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking that I have to post a blog once a week or not at all. But I don’t want to be all or nothing – with anything in life! I’ve decided to give myself the freedom to blog when 1) I have/make the time and 2) I actually feel inspired. Let’s see how this goes!
Now for some random thoughts…
It’s Sunday and I’m sitting down to write this after doing about three hours of chores… tired but so relieved to get some tedious tasks out of the way! (Dusting baseboards, washing bedding, scrubbing everything my bathroom, etc.) Sometimes cleaning can be oddly therapeutic!
I’m so happy with my decision to pursue a career in real estate. It’s been really fun so far and feels like the perfect fit. My favorite part is how satisfying it is to genuinely connect with people and help them achieve their goals. Homes are so personal and important, which makes the process very special to be a part of. 🙂 I started blogging on my real estate website as well, which you can check out here if you’re curious! Sharing lots of tips, market updates, and more.
That said, it is super weird being my own boss for the first time. Even though I am a Windermere agent and I have a Managing Broker, I am technically an independent contractor. This means I am in charge of when I work, how much I work, and what I get done. Some days this flexibility is convenient and empowering, and some days it’s incredibly overwhelming!
Thanks to my sister I’m currently obsessed with the 90s song “Fade into You” by Mazzy Star. Miley Cyrus covered it on a NPR Tiny Desk episode and it was amazing… she’s honestly so talented. See for yourself here!
Both the coat and the pants I’m wearing in the outfit above are pieces I rented from Nuuly, a monthly clothing rental subscription service. I have been loving my Nuuly membership because it makes my wardrobe feel fresh. Also love trying things that I might not buy otherwise! You can save $10 on your first month here if you want to give it a try. (Also just FYI – this isn’t sponsored! I’m paying the full $88/month + tax and I totally think it’s worth it).
Made this chicken tortilla soup the other night and it was very easy + tasty. Having leftovers with quesadillas tonight!
Recently I’ve been working on dialing in my morning and evening routines. It’s so easy to want to push snooze and go back to sleep in the morning and same with scrolling on my phone in bed at night. I know it’s good to be flexible and have grace for ourselves, but I truly feel SO much better when I follow my routines. Right now I’d say I’m successful about 3/5 week days – shooting for 5/5! Here’s what I strive for… Morning: wake up at 6:00, go to the gym, come home and shower, meditate/pray, journal for just a few minutes, start work by 8:30am. Evening: put phone away by 9:30pm, stretch, read, close eyes by 10pm.
Udenze and I just watched Operation Varsity Blues on Netflix – a movie about the college admissions scandal that was exposed in 2019. It was very interesting!
In case you missed it, I recently started a series of Instagram Guides called Sorelle’s Seattle Guides. I’m really excited about them!! Each guide focuses on a cool neighborhood within the city and the great spots it has to offer – bars + restaurants, shops, parks, etc. – with an emphasis on small, local businesses.
Two books I’ve read and enjoyed lately are The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. Both of these novels have thought-provoking racial themes – one explores the experiences of Black female twins in America in the mid 20th century and the other explores that of a Chinese American family. I’m now reading Why Bother by Jennifer Louden and The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. I typically like to read one nonfiction or self-help type book and one fiction book simultaneously. 🙂
Speaking of books – yesterday I went to Goodwill and found some great hardcover books that I’m really excited about. They were $3.99 each! The key is to scan the shelves for ones that are a nice size and then check under the sleeve to see if they look good. I atyled them on my coffee table and they’re looking cute!
Sooo thankful that it’s spring. I always appreciate the beauty and new growth that this season brings but its arrival feels more meaningful this year. I think it’s because we’re finally starting to turn a corner with Covid. This time last year we had no clue what was going to happen and there was so much uncertainty. Spring 2021 feels fresh and promising, like we can see a light at the end of a very long tunnel.
I think that’s all I got for now! Hope to see you here again soon. 🙂
