Hi beauties! Hope 2020 is off to a great start so far. It’s been a whirlwind for me… I quit my job in January and have started pursuing a new career so things are busy (but very exciting!) right now. In case you missed it, you can read the full story on that here.
Self-care is always important, but it seems to be even more necessary during big life changes. Ironically, it seems like it’s harder than ever to find time for self-care amidst transitions and other times when lots of things are demanding our attention.
I thought I would share the way that I’m approaching self-care in 2020 as I go through this crazy time in my life. It feels relevant right now because I know there are quite a few of you who also have hectic schedules!
Although we may not have time to unwind with a bath and a book for an hour every night, there are small ways that we can take care of our bodies and minds throughout the day. This is the way that I’m implementing self-care this year – tiny, intentional changes to my daily routine. Today I want to share just THREE simple things you can do to show yourself some love.
Research and invest in skin, hair, & makeup products
This is a big one for me! I used to be the kind of girl who would buy only drugstore beauty products. No more my friends! For the past several years I’ve really tried to change this. I have a few drugstore faves that I still use and love, but I have started to spend more time researching products and am willing to spend more money because I am WORTH IT and so are you. We only get one body in this lifetime and it’s our responsibility to take care of it!
One product I have been loving recently is the Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum. Vitamin C is known to have A TON of benefits including anti-aging, brightening, collagen synthesis, anti-oxidant, and improved complexion. However, straight Vitamin C can be unstable on its own. Vitabrid C12 is the only product in the world that delivers active, stabilized Vitamin C for over 12 hours. It also utilizes Peptibrid, a unique peptide complex that promotes collagen production in the skin and helps maintain vibrant and firm skin texture. I added the Dual Drop Serum to my nighttime routine (after cleanser and toner) and have definitely noticed that my skin feels brighter and more moisturized in the morning!
Now is a great time to test out this product for yourself because Vitabrid C¹² has partnered up with Refinery29 to offer the Dual Drop Serum that was originally $62, for only $9.90 using the code “RF29” at checkout now through May 31, 2020!
Drink at least 64 oz of water
I know, I know – this is one we’ve all heard SO many times. But that’s because it is extremely important. Drinking water boosts skin health and beauty, assists with brain function, supports the digestive system, makes nutrients and minerals accessible, helps maintain a healthy weight, and more. This is the first year that I have actually decided to record how much water I am drinking on a daily basis, in order to ensure I consume 64oz. or more. The only way I’m able to do this is by using my big 32 oz. Hydroflask and drinking at least two full ones per day.
Prioritize non-screen time activities
It can be so easy to spend the majority of the day looking at screens… especially if you have a Monday-Friday 9-5 desk job. Maybe you look at your phone on the bus, spend all day looking at a computer at work, and then get home and watch TV. I feel like a typical day looks something like this for so many Americans and it’s pretty concerning.
I would encourage you to spend at least 30 minutes either in the morning or at night (better yet – both!) relaxing without a screen. This can look different for everyone, but a few examples would be curling up on the couch with some coffee and a good book, taking a yoga class, or journaling. For example: recently I’ve been trying to read for the last 30 minutes of my day before bed. It really helps me chill out and decompress from the day. Implementing these small changes as well as things like meditation, exercise, etc. will truly make a difference in your overall health and well-being. If you have other self-care tips that you swear by, I’d love to know! Leave me a comment below or tell me over on Instagram. 🙂
